Minecraft 1.7 update
« on: June 27, 2011, 07:38:23 PM »
Minecraft Beta 1.7

After realizing that the adventure related stuff is taking a while, Notch's team decided to push 1.7 with the additions the community wants without the adventure related updates.

According to this reddit post, Jeb said this on an IRC chatroom:
Quote
'1.7 will include pistons, shears, redstone->repeater fix, fences on fences fix, torches on fences, and various smaller changes' - From IRC earlier today.

With the new version, we will have official pistons. This means if you want to make your great piston deathtrap, over-sized elevator, or collapsible staircase you'll be able to do it without mod support. Some knowledge of redstone is needed to efficiently use pistons, but they will finally be in the game.

The other item that excites me is the redstone repeater fix. For those unaware, you need to input redstone directly into a redstone repeater for it to function. As of 1.7, you just need redstone dust facing towards the repeater for it to work. This will help condense redstone circuts further, and reduce headaches relating to redstone-related issues.

As for the other items, I hope shears allows players to get much more wool than normal. Hunting sheep becomes tiring, and I've been tempted numerous times to just spawn the wool. The fence fix means you'll be able to place fences on top of each other instead of monkeying around with fences to achieve the same result.

Finally, I'm betting my entire supply of bitcoins (which is zero) that there will be at least one new bug that demands a 1.7.1 release.

Edit: Looks like there's been a tweet by Jeb confirming everything in this post

With Minecraft 1.7, slimeballs actually serve a purpose in Minecraft. Thankfully, there are people with more time on their hands that have figured out how to get slimes to spawn. Read this post (warning, link to Minecraft Forums  :pain: ).

With that said, here's the slime spawning point in our server Evilpoptart (2.5 diamond picks wasted on this):

As to how to get there:

I haven't played minecraft in so long, I never even downloaded the 1.6 update, it's gotten to boring alone.
The Toad House's slogan is...
"Refresh your Body and Soul!"
Back from the dead? I think so.

Ugh, 1.7_01 is buggy in Multi-player like the beginning in any other update... when it doesn't have Bukkit.  :gonk:
Damn you, Notch. Hold off an update for a week to test it before sending it out to Beta testers (us)...
Crap dude, you better do what he says.
For seriousness.

Figures, there business outlook its pretty piss poor now if you ask me since they like rolling in there money. To be honest I won't touch this update until everything is fixed because its really not worth the headache. The sad thing is they gave this update out EARLY! to a select few sources to try it out and now he goes "OOPS IT NO WORK I R SORRY, I FIX L8R  :awesome:"

Nice to know that we are the ginnie pigs. Why test new patches properly before we release them just put them out there and that gives us more time to sit and do nothing for awhile because we gave you what you want.
