Not sure if any of you are into non-SMW Mario hacks, but I thought I'd post this here as I just finished the release video.  Basically, SS+ is largely a stats-only hack (i.e. no changes in the storyline/dialogue), but it's meant to show some of the things that can be accomplished with the editor currently available and a little simple HEX editing.  That and to fix some of the balance issues with the actual game, notably the Mush Badges and the early attainability of the Bonus Ring.

I dunno if I'll have the time to play this myself (never have played a GBA game on emulator), although I'd love to. Although I have a feeling I'll be annoyed by all the Hoo Beans being in random places...

Lol, most of them are in the same place as they always were; those ones in the video are the only major changes (that and I turned a few formerly visible Hoo Bean blocks invisible).  However, I will say that there are EXACTLY 35 Hoo Beans before the Piranha Bean boss, and you need to collect ALL of them (as well as 35 of the 40-some Chuckle Beans) to get its rare item.  It's not really "broken", per se, but it's an incredibly useful piece of equipment.

Huh, well maybe I never mastered the game as much as I thought I did.

It's good you removed the Mush Badges... I think the developers realized in later games too that was a bad idea (although it's fun to romp with a pair of Mush AA). I also liked the random stat increase mushrooms.

Yeah, it's a nice alternative to Teeheespresso-farming, IMO; you can buy them for ~500 and 1,000 coins (I think) towards the end of the game.  However, beans are also easier to come by after getting the Game Boy Horror SP; enemies in the Beanbean Castle Town outskirts drop all four types.

And the Mush Badges aren't totally removed, but the only "Shroom Force"-inducing badges are boss-drop-exclusive, and the two bosses that have them are very late in the game.  Again, they don't do much against the final boss anyway.

Basically, I nerfed the effects of POW/DEF-Down as best I could with Superstar Saga's way of handling damage done, as well as making enemies give a bit more experience, lowering the final boss's HP slightly (I've wanted to do that since slightly after the first version released), and tweaking a few other enemy stats here and there.

If you guys haven't played SS+ yet, you should play the new version at some point!

Incidentally, I also finished uploading my Level-2-Mario Boss Run in BIS and my Super Mario 74 Walkthrough recently.

Question. If I follow your walkthrough, would I be able to apply all your battle tactics back in the original game (and perhaps have an easier time as a result.)

Otherwise, looking forward to this simply to see something different than Chopper Bros with Mush badge everything to death.

Pretty much; I'm trying to make it function as a standard MLSS walkthrough as well.  And yeah, while the Hammer Bros. Attacks are still the damage-dealers, all of the others have their places, and I get Advances on all of them naturally throughout the game, IIRC.  Bounce Bros. is probably the only attack I rarely use; its only real function in the late-game is a cheaper non-elemental multi-target attack than Cyclone Bros.

Just uploaded the first video and menu; hopefully it'll finish processing soon.  I need to fix the skip annotation placement eventually, but it'll work for those who want them.

Also, bummed I can't make the stream tonight; weekend schedules suck. :(
