Rules of the MilesLuigi forum board (last update: 10/28/2011)
« on: October 19, 2010, 01:54:38 PM »
Welcome to ml.techyoshi.com. First off, thank you for reading this thread. You are already a step ahead of some people. This forum board is friendly and welcome to all; however, there are some rules to be followed to keep everything in order. Everything here is straightforward, but it's a good idea to review these rules anyway.

 :wooper: Rules  :wooper:

Section 1: Acting like a human being
1. Have meaning in your posts
I'm not going to ask anyone to write essays. However, you should ask yourself if you’re contributing positively to the discussion before posting and replying to topics. Basically, try to at least write a sentence, use proper spelling and grammar, and avoid internet memes unless they are appropriate in the discussion.

1.a. The Spelling and Grammar Corollary
I don't expect everyone to spell every word correctly, or to use perfect grammar in every post. However, I learned in fourth grade to capitalize the first word in ever sentence. Your posts will look much better if you follow the syntax of the English Language. This isn't an IRC chatroom, or a cesspool of the internet. Think about how your message portrays you. If it's full of spelling and grammar problems it looks like your a child or an idiot who shouldn't be on this website.

2. Don't Troll, and Don't Feed the Trolls
Trolling includes personal insults, intentionally sabotaging topics, posting useless or dumb posts, and generally acting like an asshole. If this happens just report it to a moderator and they will take care of it. Do not engage in a conversation with said troll! It's better to pretend the post/reply doesn't exist until a moderator takes care of it.

3. No Flaming or Starting Flame Wars
Flaming kills the discussion and creates drama that is unnecessary. It also causes topics to drift off topic. Once again, do not engage and just report if you see this happen.

4. Keep Profanity to a Minimum
Don't curse a storm. However, we're not going to babysit everyone and tell them not to use curse words; use them appropriately and sparingly.

Section 2: This should be common sense
1. No Blatant Advertising
Unless it's relevant, don't advertise your company/band/hobby/Let's Plays blatantly. This includes sending PMs to everyone to advertise. For example:

Quote from: an idiot breaking the rules
Hey guyz, I thought I would share my awsome utube channel, go check it out lolz! http://www.youtube.com/milesluigi

If it's within the scope of the discussion, it's allowed to plug your company/band/hobby/Let's Plays. Just do it in a civil manner, and give people a reason to check it out.

Quote from: someone following the rules
I am also doing a playthrough of Enigmatic Mario. Unlike MilesLuigi, I am editing out all the failures and giving informative commentary. You can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/codemaster99

Don't push you're luck with this rule. If you're unsure, contact a moderator about it.

2. No Hacking the forum (this includes you script kiddies)
This is pretty obvious. Any attempt to hack the forums will result in an instant ban. No exceptions. Brute force attacks, using script kiddy programs, and any other crazy attack made to circumvent this website's security definitely fall under this section.

3. No Illegal Activity
No breaking the law of the land here. This includes warez (illegal software), cracks (edits to software to make them fully functioning), and ROMs. Emulators, freeware/homebrew ROMs, and .IPS patches are fine to post. If it's gray line PM a moderator before posting.

Section 3: Forum Activities
1. No Blatant Topic Bumping or Spamming
If you're going to bump a topic say more than "bump". It looks really lame.
We have NO tolerance for spam. Your first post needs to be approved by a moderator; after that, you may post without approval. Posting spam after approval will give you an instant ban.

2. Malicious Links
Absolutely no malicious links are allowed to be posted. If you purposely link to a website that is capable of infecting someone's computer you will be banned.

3. No Threatening to Leave the Board
This just looks bad for everyone, and causes flaming. If you are going to leave, just do it.

Section 4: Violations
All violations of the rules are subject to the decision of the moderator. Unless it's a serious offense, there will usually be a warning the first and second time. If things become hairy, there may be bans. Don't try to push us, we will ban on sight if needed.

Remember, I am a human being. I try not to be the nasty administrator. If you need something, PM me or a moderator. You'll gain much more respect from me and everyone on this forum board if you at least show some sense of sincerity and professionalism.

Rules are subject to change.
The following are changes to the rules:

I really don't want to be a big meanie regarding people's spelling and grammar. However, there is definitely a line between people who have trouble with English, and people who purposely misspell words because it's "cool" or "how they normally conduct themselves."

I don't want to scare anybody away whose second, or territory language is English. Try your best; I'm not a grammar nazi. I'm just annoyed because poor grammar does have powerful consequences. It makes the perpetrator look stupid or foolish or incompetent or careless (you choose the adjective).

If English is your second/territory language, and I can tell that you are trying your best, I will not punish you for posting. The rule exists to keep low-effort posting to a minimum.
