It's been a long time since either Evilpoptart or I have updated this post.
I am waiting for Minecraft 1.9 to actually come out. Assuming Notch sticks to his word that after 1.9 there will be nothing but bug fixes till release, any map made with 1.9 should be supported for the rest of Minecraft's life. (This isn't a great assumption given Notch's history, but one that I'll be making.)
There's one project I wanted to undergo in Minecraft that I'm finally starting to plan. I'll release details later, but for until then, I'll share some houses Evilpoptart and I have made
in creative mode on our current server. Both of us decided to undergo a simple litmus test while building these houses: If it was unreasonable to collect the materials in survival don't build it.

This house was originally made of brick. Something in me changed it to cobblestone; however, even if it was still brick, it wasn't an unreasonable amount of brick. I've collected over 1000 blocks of clay in previous versions of Minecraft, and it's not too difficult if you know what you're doing.
I like the change to cobblestone's texture; it doesn't look nearly as ugly as it did before. I could see myself using the block occasionally in future projects. Previously, I would change all cobblestone into smoothstone before I used any of it.

An inside peak. Wool/Wood have a great texture for a floor, and still work functionally well. Wood is abundant, but if you have the wool to make it look better, go for it. As for any fire/lava concerns, it's your floor! If it burns, your house is still there.

A house in Minecraft is not complete unless it has chests and furnaces.

The lava pit here is a garbage dispenser. Not even Evilpoptart can fall into this pit of lava. One would have to break the glass to fall into there.

A dual purpose body of water. It's a pool, and...

A place to fall into from the top of this house. The object here is suppose to look like a pipe, like in Super Mario Bros; however, there isn't any good solid material that's both green and sturdy. Now that I think of it, I could have used mossy cobblestone, or vine-covered stone.

A farm on top of the house. This is one of my favorite architectural ideas. In real life, putting a farm on the roof doubles as both a farm, and as insulation for your house in the summer and winter.

An empty room with a single switch. Let's press it.

It's a piston powered drop into a mine. I don't show it, but the cave system down below is incredibly large, and I still haven't explored every cranny in it. I have a few signs throughout the cave system to help anyone who wants to explore in it.

Traveling east through the desert, there's another building over there. Let's check it out.

This is Evilpoptart's house. I am a little jealous over the design here. It fits in the environment, it's practical to live in, and it could be built in survival without much issue. I think his design would be easier to create than mine!

While the cacti does ruin the view on the first floor, there's always the second floor to have a good view of the desert.

Damn. I think Evilpoptart signed a contract with the devil to have architectural skills good enough to create a layout this good.

A piston elevator. Before anyone asks, I was the one who made it. It works alright, but you have to jump off of it when it finishes, or you'll fall back down.

The house isn't very accessible to handicapped people. You are forced to drop if you want to go back down.

Block coded pillars to mark each set of chests. It makes more sense than my wall of chests.

I wonder if I should ban Evilpoptart from using lava again?

Wait. This isn't right. Evilpoptart would never place pictures of Pinkie Pie in his library!
This is the moment I realized I was still using the My Little Pony texture pack. I like this one because it's subtle, and doesn't scream BRONY every minute you're using it.
This map was made in Minecraft 1.8 (obviously). The question I have to everyone, should Evilpoptart and I keep these houses. I'm a little afraid that anything made 1.8 or before won't include stuff like strongholds, or other 1.9 exclusive content. Neither Evilpoptart nor I have made a nether portal, so when 1.9 comes out the exclusive nether stuff should be accessible to us. The question is, do we throw away these great houses when 1.9 comes out, or keep them at risk of missing out on part of the upcoming update?
