Common Sense for Everyone
« on: February 03, 2011, 12:07:22 PM »
 :wooper:Directly from the rules :wooper:
Section 2: This should be common sense
1. No Blatant Advertising
Unless it's relevant, don't advertise your company/band/hobby/Let's Plays blatantly. This includes sending PMs to everyone to advertise. For example:

Quote from: an idiot breaking the rules
Hey guyz, I thought I would share my awsome utube channel, go check it out lolz! http://www.youtube.com/milesluigi

If it's within the scope of the discussion, it's allowed to plug your company/band/hobby/Let's Plays. Just do it in a civil manner, and give people a reason to check it out.

Quote from: someone following the rules
I am also doing a playthrough of Enigmatic Mario. Unlike MilesLuigi, I am editing out all the failures and giving informative commentary. You can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/codemaster99

Don't push you're luck with this rule. If you're unsure, contact a moderator about it.

I do check stopforumspam.com if I see something suspicious. Even if you don't break the rules, if you're IP address appears on this website my BANHAMMER will be directly above your head. You have been warned.

Fourm password security

Sometimes guests AKA auto login bots will attempt to brute force attack member passwords.

THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! AND YOU WILL BE BANNED!

With that in mind, please make sure the passwords you choose are strong and something that could not be easily guessed or used in dictionary attacks.

Rule 1 – Password Length: Stick with passwords that are at least 8 characters in length. The more character in the passwords is better, as the time taken to crack the password by an attacker will be longer. 10 characters or longer are better.

Rule 2 – Password Complexity: Should contain at least one character from each of the following group. At least 4 characters in your passwords should be each one of the following.

   1. Lower case alphabets
   2. Upper case alphabets
   3. Numbers
   4. Special Characters

I'm not a fan of puppeteers but I've a nagging fear
someone else is pulling at the strings
Something terrible is going down through the entire town
wreaking anarchy and all it brings

Brute force attacks definitely fall under hacking the forum.

I've always considered the best password security policy one that no one else knows. Follow Evilpoptart's advice first, because attacks against a user's password first try easily guessable words. Having different passwords for every website also helps a lot; this is where a password manager really helps keep everything together.

Finally, I have HTTPS enabled on the web server specifically for this reason. Just remember that I am not certified by a certificate authority. (No, I'm not spending money on a certificate. Read this if you want to learn more: http://www.sslshopper.com/ssl-certificate-not-trusted-error.html)
